Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a rare but serious neurological condition in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nerves. It can progress rapidly and requires urgent medical attention.

  • Tingling or pins and needles – Often starting in the feet and hands.
  • Numbness – In the limbs or face.
  • Muscle weakness – Typically begins in the legs and may spread to the arms and face.
  • Poor coordination or balance – Difficulty walking or climbing stairs.
  • Back or leg pain – Sharp, shooting, or aching pain.
  • Facial weakness – Drooping muscles, difficulty speaking or swallowing.
  • Double vision or eye movement problems
  • Loss of reflexes – Such as the knee-jerk reflex.
  • Breathing difficulties – In severe cases, chest muscles may be affected.
  • Paralysis – May affect legs, arms, or facial muscles.
  • Autonomic symptoms – Such as rapid heart rate, blood pressure changes, or bladder/bowel issues.
