Living with the effects of a Brain Injury
The impact of brain injury can be wide-ranging, affecting movement, thinking, communication, and emotional wellbeing.
Rehabilitation aims to restore function, promote independence, and improve quality of life at every stage of recovery.cation, and severity of the stroke, and can significantly impact independence and wellbeing.
Acquired brain injury disrupts the brain’s ability to process and send signals effectively. Depending on the cause and severity, this can lead to:
- Speech, language, and swallowing difficulties
- Muscle weakness, stiffness, or spasticity
- Balance and coordination difficulties
- Reduced mobility and walking challenges
- Fatigue and reduced endurance
- Cognitive changes such as memory, attention, or problem-solving difficulties
- Emotional and behavioural changes, including anxiety, low mood, or impulsivity
At Physio Matters, our Stroke Rehabilitation Programme is tailored to each individual’s needs and may include:
- Neurological assessment and goal setting
- Movement re-education and gait training
- Balance and coordination exercises
- Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) to support muscle activation
- Constraint-induced movement therapy to improve use of affected limbs
- Postural management and seating advice

We use evidence-based techniques to promote neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to rewire and adapt — helping clients relearn essential skills and regain independence.
