Snowsports

Having been born and brought up in Norway our Physiotherapist Eirin Andersen has skied since being a toddler. Therefore when she joined Physio Matters Neurological Ltd in April 2015, we have been keen to use her skills to enhance the therapy that we can offer our clients.

“Since I started working at Physio Matters I have had the opportunity to work closely with Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) a registered charity based at the Chill Factore, providing adaptive skiing for individual with disabilities.” says Eirin. “Most clients’ are able to enjoy skiing, by using adaptive equipment and receive support and instruction by qualified skiing instructors”.

We have had the chance to introduce several clients interested in snow sports to the fantastic service, and it is safe to say everyone has been extremely satisfied! Not only does skiing, both standing and sitting, have positive physical effects on an individual; it also has positive psychological effects.”

The benefits of skiing & snowsports for individuals with disabilities have been investigated by Nasuti and Temple (2010). The conclusion states that skiing can positively influence self-esteem, standing balance, and gross motor function.
