Focus on Disability Sport – Colin Green attends Don’t Quit, Do It

23rd October 2017

A trip to Newcastle enabled Physio Matters Director, Colin Green, to attend the Don’t Quit, Do It conference recently and explore the ‘Benefits of Disability Sport and Advancements in Technology’.

Hosted by solicitors Irwin Mitchell at the Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club on 12 October, the conference examined the barriers to entry into sport for disabled people, the psychological and social benefits of sport and sport rehabilitation programmes, and the advancements in technology and sporting equipment.

The conference opened with the very inspiring Don’t Quit, Do It video from Irwin Mitchell which can be viewed by clicking the image below.

Special guests included Stephen Miller MBE, a Triple Paralympic Champion who was born with cerebral palsy. Stephen competes in field athletics primarily the F32 Club Throw, which is equivalent to the Javelin. He has represented Great Britain for over 15 years, competing in 5 Paralympic Games, 5 World Championships and 4 European Championships – so far winning 26 international medals. Stephen’s philosophy was that “a negative mind will never give you a positive life.”

Colin said: “This was a highly relevant conference which explored the growing area of sport rehabilitation within physiotherapy which we use extensively at Physio Matters, including disability skiing, football, golf, cycling, swimming, canoeing and more to help our clients. The conference really highlighted how transformative sport can be in people’s life, especially after disability.”

The ‘Don’t Quit, Do It’ campaign was set up by Irwin Mitchell in 2015 to make sport accessible for all and showcases the many benefits of sport in helping people recover from serious injuries and other major traumas in their lives.
