Team Building at Away Day

20th June 2019

On Tuesday 18th June, the Physio Matters staff headed out of the office to take part in their bi-annual Away Day. Held at Oldham Event Centre, at the grounds of Oldham Athletic FC, the day included a variety of team building and goal-orientated exercises, as well as some fun, laughter and insightful personal activities from the very talented staff spotlights.

The morning began with an update from Clinical Director, Colin Green, who reviewed Physio Matters’ achievements over the past six months, including the pride of our double-award win at the Oldham Business Awards in May. This was followed by our Business Development and Communications team, Dr Jane Tonge and Alice Atkinson, who gave an overview of our communications activity, social media, website and events over the past 6 months. These activities help build awareness of our services and maintain our strong reputation, and there was a special mention of co-hosting our highly-successful first Brainwaves Conference in the Spring.

Goal Setting

Our Clinical Team of physiotherapists, Business Support Team, and Business Development and Communications team split into groups throughout the day to focus on planning team and individual goals for effective future practice within the business. The groups spent a considerable amount of time discussing the goals between themselves and then fed back to the whole team, which resulted in positive actions that will be taken forward.

Staff Spotlight

Once lunch time approached, the team tucked into some gourmet refreshments whilst everyone showcased their hidden talents with our ‘Staff Spotlight’ section. From a quick and tasty recipe for how to bake ginger cake and how to make the perfect cup of coffee (it’s more complicated than you’d expect!), to map navigation using a compass and learning how to say our names using British Sign Language, the team all learned something new from each other.

Katy Parrott, Team Co-ordinator said “Our Away Day was thoroughly enjoyable. It was really nice to step out of our usual surroundings and work routine, and all get together to agree great plans to aid the business… and the food was absolutely divine!”

Tower Teambuilding

The day concluded with a fun teambuilding exercise that involved two teams racing against time to compete to make the highest tower made purely out of paper and Sellotape. Although one team certainly triumphed against the other, it was the taking part that counted most.

Overall the Away Day was a success as the staff bonded over teambuilding exercises and made plans for the future of the business. A special mention goes to the staff at Oldham Event Centre who provided a professional corporate box for us for our event, as well as delicious food and refreshments throughout the day.
